Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
